Kit Domestic Shorthair Adult Male in Des Moines, Iowa

My story
- Has done well with dogs - Has done well with kidsThis cat has tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus. FIV attacks the immune system leaving a cat vulnerable to recurrent infections. There currently is no cure for FIV, but infected cats can live fairly normal lives for years. FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds. Casual contact such as sharing food/water bowls, mutual grooming, etc. is unlikely to spread FIV. However, we recommend that this cat be an only cat or live with other FIV+ cats. More info is on this cat's kennel, but if you have questions, please consult your regular veterinarian before adoption. This cat can be fearful and may need extra time to adjust to a new home. We've seen good progress here at the ARL, but don't be surprised if it takes several weeks for this cat to become comfortable in a new place. This cat may hide and just observe at first - maybe for quite a while - and that is perfectly normal. Young children are too much for this cat right now, so we are highly recommending a quiet, mature home. We are happy to provide post-adoption resources. If you can give this cat extra time, patience and TLC, please consider adopting! It will be so rewarding to watch them gain confidence and start enjoying all the good things in life! Primary Color: Brown Tabby Weight: 12.5 Age: 7yrs 0mths 2wks
